Prices are on a per item basis. Representative prices are a rebuilt 4 cylinder head - $200 (cast iron and no major items such as guides or seats). Short block or full engine price cannot be determined until the engine is stripped and measured due to machine and parts cost. Example, if the cylinder bores are good, you will only have the cost of honing the cylinders and new rings. If the engine has to be bored, then you have the cost of boring plus the cost of new pistons. |
The head is magnafluxed (cast iron heads) and pressure tested. Guides, valves and springs are replaced on an "as needed" basis. Head is warp checked and surfaced if needed. A multi-angle valve grind is done and the head reassembled. Guides, valve springs and valves will be changed at the request of the customer. The cost of the parts and related machine work will be priced prior to performing the service.
The same procedure, except for magnaflux, is used on aluminum heads. They are pressure tested. Overhead cam heads also have the cam installed and the valves adjusted. The cam align bore is checked and the head is checked for cam and head deck being parallel.
Any additional services such as cc'ing the heads, milling to achieve higher compression, installing different valve springs, installing new valve seats, repairing damaged head, etc are charged at the current machine shop rate.
The crank is degreased and magnafluxed to check for cranks. It is then measured,c hecked for staright and turned or polished as needed. Serviced cranks come with bearings.
The engine is degreased and disassembled.
Components are cleaned, magnafluxed to check for cracks and measured for size.
After all componenets are measured, the customer is notified of what is needed
- oversize pistons, cam wear, etc. All machine operations are performed. If
the engine needs to
be bored, the bore sizes are then fininshed to the dimension of the new pistons.
The engine is cleaned again and reasembled. All engines are balanced and align
bored. . Certain engines have extra "fixes" performed such as pinning
thrust washers on Spit/GT6/TR6 engines. A start-up and break-in sheet accompanies
every engine.
Engines may be done as a full engine,
short block or just a "block and crank" for the person who
wants to DIY.
